Nurse cover letter: example and tips

A complete cover letter for nurse jobs in Switzerland, what recruiters in the field look for, and the openings available right now.

What the recruiter wants to read

  • Your diploma (higher education, university of applied sciences or foreign) and, for a foreign one, its recognition by the Swiss Red Cross.
  • The wards you have worked on: acute care, geriatrics, psychiatry, home care.
  • Your availability for irregular shifts, nights and weekends, and the workload you want.

A complete example

Names and facts are made up: replace each one with your own. A copied letter shows, an adapted one gets read.

Example

Subject: Application for the registered nurse position in internal medicine, 80%

Dear Ms Berset,

Your listing for a registered nurse in internal medicine caught my attention: Clinique des Tilleuls is opening an intermediate care unit, and that is the kind of care I have provided for the past four years.

Since qualifying in 2021, I have worked at Broye Regional Hospital on a 28-bed ward. I care for patients with multiple conditions, manage intravenous treatments and post-operative monitoring, and supervise two nursing students on placement each year.

The weight your clinic gives to continuing education and your new intermediate care unit match what I am looking for over the next few years.

I can start on 1 February, after a two-month notice period, and I am happy to work rotating shifts. I would welcome the chance to discuss my application in an interview.

Kind regards,
Léa Dumoulin
