Example

Subject: Application for the German-French translator position

Dear Ms Keller,

Your language department is looking for a German-to-French translator specialising in financial texts. For five years I have translated reports and regulatory documents for the banking sector.

With a master’s in translation from the University of Geneva, I work at Langues et Finance SA, translating around 2,000 words a day, mainly annual reports, prospectuses and client communications, in Trados with translation memories and termbases that I maintain.

The quality of your publications and the systematic peer review between translators you emphasise match the way I work.

My notice period is three months, and I would be glad to do a translation test.

Kind regards,
Hélène Moret
