Waiter cover letter: example and tips

A complete cover letter for waiter jobs in Switzerland, what recruiters in the field look for, and the openings available right now.

What the recruiter wants to read

  • Your federal certificate or seasons in service, and the type of place: brasserie, fine dining, hotel, banqueting.
  • How you are with guests, the languages you speak and your wine knowledge.
  • Your availability in the evening, at weekends and in season.

A complete example

Names and facts are made up: replace each one with your own. A copied letter shows, an adapted one gets read.

Example

Subject: Application for the waitress position

Dear Mr Bapst,

Your restaurant is looking for a waitress for the summer season. I have done four seasons in mountain and lakeside restaurants and enjoy the pace of a full terrace.

With a federal certificate in restaurant service, I work at Brasserie du Port, which seats 120 on its terrace. I take orders on a touchscreen till, recommend wines from the list and cash up after service. I speak French, English and German, which helps with your tourist guests.

Your menu of local produce and the family atmosphere of your team appeal to me.

I am available from May to October, evenings and weekends. I would gladly come in for a trial shift.

Kind regards,
Chloé Mettraux
